A Look At Berkshire Hathaway’s cash levels
Does it tell us anything about whether the markets are topping?
First, from outside the Bitcoin space there’s Warren Buffett himself, who went to record levels of cash prior to the Black Monday sell-off event of the first week in August, selling equities (including a good chunk of their Apple stock) to bring their cash pile up to $277 billion.
While many reported on this as “Buffett dumping right before Black Monday” - which occured on August 5th - the numbers actually came from Berkshire Hathaway’s second quarter 10-Q filing, for the period ended June 30th.
This got me wondering about where the ole ‘Oracle of Omaha’ went in terms of cash ahead of the Global Financial Crisis in 2008 (which started rumbling as early as 2006, or even 2005) - but most of the charts I came across only went back to 2010.
